A Georgia Ports Authority police officer died early Thursday morning after succumbing to injuries he sustained in a March accident while he coordinating routine traffic operations at the Garden City Terminal.

Cpl. William Solomon died at 12:15 a.m. from injuries he sustained when he was hit by a drunk driver on March 2, said Robert Morris, Georgia Ports Authority spokesman.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Aida and the children. Funeral arrangements have not been provided at this time,” Morris said in a press release.

Corporal Solomon was directing traffic when he was struck by a tractor trailer driven by a drunk driver. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Robert Lee Turner, 63, was arrested in connection with the accident. Turner was charged with operating a vehicle without a tag or decal and DUI less safe, both misdemeanors.

No one else was hurt.
