Savannah-Chatham police investigate wrecks that killed two

Savannah-Chatham police department’s Major Accident Investigations Team is investigating two wrecks that killed two this week.

The first accident occurred Thursday just after 6 p.m., when Tajon Alford, 22, was traveling east on Mall Boulevard on a Kawasaki motorcycle, said Darnisha Green, Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman. Ray Dean, 71, was traveling north to enter Mall Boulevard in a 2014 Dodge Durango. Dean made a left turn onto Mall Boulevard when the motorcycle collided with the driver side of Dean’s vehicle, Green said. Alford was ejected from his motorcycle and was transported to Memorial University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. No injuries were reported by Dean or his two adult passengers. Green said.

Hours later, at 2:47 a.m. Friday Willie Pollard, 64, was lying in the street on DeRenne Avenue for an undetermined reason. Marcus Brown, 27, was traveling eastbound on Derenne Avenue when he struck Pollard. Pollard was pronounced dead at the scene, Green said. Alcohol may have been a factor in this incident. and charges may be pending.

Both investigations are ongoing.
