Savannah-Chatham police arrest dowtown shoplifter

Tuesday, Savannah-Chatham police department investigators arrested a man in connection with shoplifting at two different downtown retail stores.

Anthony Gomez, 28, was arrested after being caught shoplifting at a downtown clothing store on the 200 block of Broughton Street, said Darnisha Green, Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman. After the suspect left the store, a citizen notified police of the suspect’s whereabouts. Police tracked Gomez’s location and found him along with the store’s logo bag and hundreds of dollars’ worth of merchandise inside, Green said.

During the investigation, investigators recovered hundreds of dollars’ worth of jewelry from a different downtown retailer also located on the 200 block of Broughton Street. Metro returned all merchandise to the retailers.

Gomez is charged with two felony counts of theft by shoplifting and he has been arrested four times since April on shoplifting charges, Green said.
