Police say a bicyclist was taken to a hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a train near Garden City border early Thursday.
Ronald DeGeorge tried to cross railroad tracks on Tremont Road on his bicycle about 8 a.m. as a two-locomotive train was approaching, said Sonny Cohrs, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman. The train struck DeGeorge’s back tire, throwing the 47-year-old man from his bicycle.
He was taken to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries.
The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the case.
