A 19-year-old Savannah man has been charged with murder in an Aug. 26 shooting death on the 500 block of West Gwinnett Street.
Randolph Lawrence Wilson III, who was incarcerated at the Chatham County jail this weekend for probation violation, was charged by homicide detectives in the shooting of Michael Lanier Wilson near Frazier Homes, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
The two men are not related.
Michael Wilson, 31, of the 1400 block of East 58th Street was pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center after the 6:34 p.m. shooting.
Randolph Wilson was arrested Sept. 9 on top of a house at East 40th and Ash streets, where police say he had run to avoid officers who had pursued him and another man, 20-year-old Ronald Bernard Grant, from reported burglaries on Isle of Hope.
Michael Wilson was charged at that time with two counts of burglary, theft by receiving (auto), obstruction by fleeing, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a drug related item and obstruction of an officer with harm/injury.
He recently had been released from jail and was on probation with an ankle monitor.
