A 19-year-old was indicted Wednesday on murder and related charges in the August shooting death of a man near a westside Savannah public housing development.
The Chatham County Grand Jury found sufficient evidence to indict Randolph Lawrence Wilson III on malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the Aug. 26 slaying of 31-year-old Michael Lanier Wilson in the 500 block of West Gwinnett Street near Frazier Homes, said Chatham County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Daniel Baxter. The victim and suspect are not related.
Michael Wilson was transported to Memorial University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead after responding Savannah-Chatham police officers found him shot about 6:30 p.m.
Police arrested Randolph Wilson Sept. 9 on top of a house at East 40th and Ash streets, where police said he had run to avoid officers who had pursued him and another man after reported burglaries on Isle of Hope. Homicide Detectives later in September charged the suspect with the elder Wilson’s murder.
Baxter said the case was presented by Assistant District Attorney Jerry Rothschild Jr. of the Major Crimes Division.
