Woman struck crossing White Bluff Road
A woman was struck by a vehicle Thursday night while walking across White Bluff Road near the Oglethorpe Mall.
Police say Melody Johnson walked into the path of a black Volkswagen GTI being driven northbound by a 28-year-old Savannah man.
The woman was crossing the street about 8 p.m. heading from the McDonald’s area toward Sears when she was struck, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman. He said she was wearing dark clothing and was not in a crosswalk.
She was taken to Memorial University Medical Center. The extent of her injuries was not immediately clear.
The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team was called out, and the scene was cleared before 9:30 p.m.
No further information was immediately available.
