Police on Tybee Island are investigating after several headless animals were found lying on a beach early last week.
City police were called to the area of north beach where the beach curves sharply about 12:30 p.m. Jan. 5 after residents discovered the carcasses of a goat and four chickens, according to an incident report. The heads were not found.
Officers photographed the scene for evidence, and Department of Public Works employees were called to remove the carcasses.
Tybee Mayor Jason Buelterman said the situation is being taken seriously.
“It was certainly a strange situation and certainly disturbing,” Buelterman said. “We’re doing everything we can to ... find out who did it.”
Anyone with information on how the animals got on the beach is asked to call the Tybee Island police department at 912-786-5600.
