A man was killed Tuesday night in a single-vehicle wreck at The Landings on Skidaway Island.
Firefighters and medics arrived shortly before 9 p.m. to find a convertible Chrysler compact car on its side in a yard off Landings Way South at Blackgum Lane, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
The sole occupant of the vehicle, 68-year-old Jeffrey Blaisdell of Cricket Court, was pronounced dead at the scene, Miller said.
Blaisdell had been traveling southbound on Landings Way when his red PT Cruiser left the roadway and passed through a row of bushes before rolling onto its side in the yard of a residence, Miller said.
The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
Police look for woman in forgery, thefts
Detectives are trying to identify a woman who cashed a check taken from one victim’s parked vehicle and withdrew money from another victim’s bank account.
The woman represented herself as someone else to cash a stolen and forged check, then withdrew money from the account of the woman she professed to be, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
The checkbook had been left in a purse inside a locked car parked at a business on West Montgomery Crossroad on Feb. 4. When the owner returned shortly after, she found a window broken out and her purse removed.
Her credit union advised her that someone had cashed the check at a bank in town. The bank also discovered the theft from the second victim’s account when police investigated, Miller said.
