Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man they say robbed a woman at a Savannah hospital Sunday morning then sexually assaulted her.
The Savannah-Chatham police department has released an artist’s rendering of the suspect, described as a black man in his 30s or 40s who stands about 5 feet 10 inches and was wearing a black jacket and black pants at the time of the attack.
The man approached a woman who was parking her car at Candler Hospital about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, robbed her at gunpoint then forced her to drive to a location on the eastside before letting her go, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
“St. Joseph’s/Candler expresses our deep concern for the victim and her family,” hospital spokesman Scott Larson said Friday. “Our prayers are with her during this unimaginable time.”
Larson said the hospital is cooperating with investigators, and has provided them with evidence to help lead to an arrest in the case.
“Although we are not allowed to discuss specific procedures at this time, St. Joseph’s/Candler assures our patients, coworkers and visitors that we continue our measures to make sure our workplace remains as safe as possible,” he said.
Police are asking anyone with information on the man’s identity or his location to call the department’s robbery unit at 912-651-6694 or the special victims unit at 912-651-6742.
Tipsters also may call CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
Police seek theft suspect
Savannah-Chatham police are searching for the person responsible for a residential vehicle theft tied to a Pooler purse snatching.
Just after 4:30 p.m. Feb. 6, metro police responded to an auto theft at a residence near Bluegrass Lane and Woodchuck Hill Road. Officers observed no signs of forced entry. Further investigation revealed that earlier that day, a purse belonging to a resident of the house was reported stolen from a Pooler business, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
Among the purse’s contents were its owner’s driver’s license and keys to the residence and the stolen vehicle, Miller said.
About two hours later, the vehicle was discovered with a deflated tire at a gas station on the 4800 block of Ogeechee Road. The vehicle was returned to its owner.
Investigators believe the suspect is a black male in his late teens or early 20s, Miller said. He has a short haircut that is faded on the sides.
Police are asking anyone with information on these crimes to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
