Police acting on an anonymous tip Tuesday discovered human remains underneath an abandoned house in Savannah’s Cuyler-Brownville neighborhood.

A tip from CrimeStoppers led officers to a house on the 600 block of West 42nd Street, under which they found a body that had been dead for many years, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.

The remains have been transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab in Savannah for identification.

Police on Tuesday did not say whether the remains were those of a male or female.

Police are trying to determine the identity and cause of death, Miller said.

They are not currently investigating it as a homicide.

Police ask anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
