A man sheriff's officials called a sexually dangerous predator on the sex offender registry was arrested Thursday evening by deputies after they learned he had changed his address without giving proper notification.
James Patrick Alex, 39, was arrested just before 7 p.m. by the Chatham County Sheriff's Office's Sex Offender Registry Unit and its fugitive squad, said agency spokeswoman Gena Bilbo.
The agency had asked for the public's help earlier in the day locating Alex, who is classified as a level 3 sexually dangerous predator and changed his address without notifying Savannah Probation or the sheriff’s office, Bilbo said.

Probation officials discovered the information Wednesday morning and notified the sheriff’s Sex Offender Registry Team, said Gena Bilbo, sheriff’s spokeswoman.
Alex had possibly taken off his leg monitor, Bilbo said.
