Major Accident Investigation Team officers are investigating a one-car crash Sunday morning that killed a passenger and left the driver in critical condition.
Latroy Adger, 30, of the 2200 block of New Mexico Street, was found dead in the wreckage of a Volvo XC-90 sport utility vehicle at Abercorn and East 49th streets at 2:13 a.m., said police spokesman Julian Miller.
The driver, Ricky Adger, 33, was in critical condition at Memorial University Medical Center.
The Volvo was traveling south on Abercorn at a high rate of speed when Ricky Adger lost control, Miller said. The SUV crossed through the median, taking out shrubs and a metal light pole before crashing into a large tree on the corner of East 49th Street.
The two men were extricated from the wreckage by Savannah Fire and Rescue.
Effingham crash victim identified
Mikeal Bernard Young-Garvin, 31, of Rincon has been identified as the man killed in an accident early Saturday in Effingham County.
At approximately 3:20 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the intersection of Lower Ferry and Stillwell Clyo Roads on a report of a single vehicle crash, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman David Ehsanipoor said.
The car, a black Ford Focus, hit a tree. Speed was likely a factor, Ehsanipoor said.
“Investigators believe that there was a second occupant in the vehicle who fled the scene,” Ehsanipoor said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Georgia State Patrol or the Sheriff’s Office at 912-754-3449.
