Several law enforcement agencies between from Tybee Island east to Charleston, S.C., Thursday night were searching for a boat reported to have capsized with three people onboard.

Savannah-Chatham police and Coast Guard Station Tybee were among the agencies searching under bridges for the boat late Thursday, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.

The Coast Guard alerted police about 9 p.m. that it had received an automated telephone call indicating that the boat has turned over beneath a bridge, Miller said, but the location could not be narrowed down more closely.

Occasionally, the Coast Guard receives similar calls, Miller said, but the departments were taking the Thursday call seriously.

Savannah-Chatham police, and other agencies, were continuing late Thursday to search under bridges for the vessel.

Miller asked anyone with information that might help pinpoint the boat’s location to call the Coast Guard via radio or at 912-786-5440 or to dial 911 immediately.
