A man who was arrested earlier this month after leading officers from several agencies on a multi-jurisdictional chase faces more charges as part of ongoing investigations.
Pooler police are charging Jordan Christopher Oneal, 21, with armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle, pointing a pistol at another person, theft by receiving a stolen vehicle and criminal damage to property, said Detective Sgt. John Schmitt.
Those charges are on top of several brought by metro police Oct. 9 after a high-speed chase through Savannah, Pooler and Garden City that officers say began when Oneal took a car at gunpoint and ended with his arrest in Pooler.
The event that prompted the chase sounded similar to a few incidents Pooler police had been investigating.
“Once he was arrested by metro, we were able to put a name to it, and by further investigation we were able to connect him to these cases,” Schmitt said.
The Pooler charges stem from the thefts of two vehicles at gunpoint and the recovery of one of them after a pursuit. Additionally, Schmitt said, investigators say he is being investigated
for several other robberies.
Oneal had not been charged with any crimes before metro police arrested him Oct. 9, Schmitt said.
At that time, Oneal was charged with armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle and fleeing to elude police officers, said Julian Miller, metro police spokesman. He was also charged with aggravated assault, failure to maintain lane, failure to obey traffic control devices, attempting to elude a police officer for a felony offense, no permit, reckless driving and speeding.
On the night of Oct. 9, Oneal was pursued by metro police as well as officers from Port Wentworth, Garden City, Pooler and the Georgia State Patrol at speeds more than 100 mph before he abandoned a stolen vehicle in a Pooler neighborhood, climbed a fence into an apartment complex and was taken into custody, Miller said.
Metro police had responded to an apartment complex on the 100 block of Benton Boulevard near Pooler about 9:30 p.m. where a resident reported he had been robbed of the keys to his white 2013 Jeep Patriot at gunpoint, Miller said.
The Jeep passed another metro officer on Interstate 95 and led officers from the five agencies through Savannah’s southside, out Chatham Parkway and back to the Pooler area.
Schmitt said the investigation is ongoing and Pooler and metro police are working together. Miller said metro robbery detectives are still investigating Oneal.
