In what they say was a response to a Veterans Day shooting and ongoing investigations, Savannah-Chatham police served search warrants on multiple locations on East 33rd Street Thursday, arresting six people, detaining others and seizing weapons and drugs.
Dominic Manwell Williams, 20, who has been known to live on the 1100 block of East 33rd, was arrested in the first raid by Central Precinct Tactical Investigations Unit officers and Crime Suppression Units from the Central, Southside and Islands precincts, aided by the metro SWAT and K-9 teams and the ATF.
Williams was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine after fighting with police in the first of two raids about 2 p.m., said Julian Miller, metro police spokesman. He was treated for a dog bite after being taken into custody by a metro police K-9, Miller said.
Williams was arrested after an investigation into a shooting Tuesday about 1:30 p.m. on the 1100 block in which an occupant of one car was seen shooting at another, Miller said. The 25-year-old driver of a Jeep Liberty called police from a few blocks away where he was found with a minor injury after being grazed by a bullet or bullet fragment. A window had been shot out of the Jeep.
Five other subjects of warrants being served about 4 p.m. Thursday also were taken into custody and others detained, Miller said.
Police are continuing to investigate and more charges are expected from Thursday’s actions, Miller said.
