Three Bluffton High School students were charged with disturbing a school Friday over rumored gun threats, according to the Bluffton police department.
According to a department news release, police began investigating information they received Thursday that a rumor was circulating that a student planned to bring a gun to school on Friday.
The high school Resource Officer and patrol officers began interviewing students in an attempt to locate the source of the rumor, and additional police officers were assigned to the campus and surrounding schools Friday as a precaution, the release said.
After conducting a series of student interviews, investigators identified three students who admitted to discussing how they would plan an attack on a school. However, they had no plans to follow through, the release said.
All three students, whose names were not disclosed due to age, will be charged with one count of disturbing a school.
