Police say they found a 7-month-old puppy Thursday with a chain embedded in her neck.
The puppy was found ignoring her own pain to tend to a young child in the unincorporated Chatham County neighborhood east of the Sandfly area, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
Veterinarians removed the chain from her neck and stitched up the open wounds of the puppy that spent Friday wagging her tail and licking fingers of the department’s Animal Control employees.
She is expected to be available for adoption after a five-day waiting period.
Officers continue to seek those who had chained the puppy to allow the injuries to occur, Miller said.
