Metro police are seeking suspects they say took advantage of risky actions by victims and robbed them of their vehicles Wednesday.
A 31-year-old male and 23-year-old female told officers they were attempting to buy marijuana while in an unfamiliar neighborhood when they were robbed, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
They had called a number to arrange the purchase at a convenience store but followed three males on foot to the 3100 block of Gibbons Street, where they were approached with guns about 5:40 p.m. The male victim was stripped of his clothing before valuables were taken, including the keys to his pickup truck, Miller said. Islands Precinct patrol officers later found the truck on Shell Road.
The suspects were described as black males, one was about 6 feet tall, 170 pounds with an average build, wearing a blue or black sweatshirt and pants and black shoes; the second 5 feet 11 inches with a heavy build wearing a black knit watch cap and black pants; and the third average weight wearing a black vest with a hood, red shirt, blue jeans and a brown belt. All three were armed.
About 8:45 p.m., a pizza delivery driver reported she had left her silver 2014 Nissan Sentra running and unlocked out of her sight while she delivered a salad to a house on Windsor Road. When she walked back to her vehicle, she saw a male in the driver’s seat.
She attempted to enter the passenger’s side and was dragged a short distance as the thief drove away, Miller said. She was treated for minor injuries.
The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, average build, and wearing a black, hooded jacket. The vehicle has not been recovered.
Metro police have advised against leaving vehicles running while unattended and to conduct business with unknown individuals only in highly populated and well-lit locations.
