The Army is trying to identify suspects who defaced property at Fort Stewart with racist graffiti.
Some time over the weekend, most likely Saturday night, several signs, buildings, and streets were defaced with graffiti by a person or persons unknown. Fort Stewart police are investigating and asking for public assistance.
“If anyone has information, we appreciate them coming forward,” Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander Col. Kevin F. Gregory said in a news release. “Anyone who does so or calls in a tip will remain anonymous.”
Tips can be phoned in to the Fort Stewart police desk at 912-767-9269.
The graffiti was vulgar, and, in some instances, included racial epithets, authorities said.
A Fort Stewart spokesman said the crime was “very visible” and the words were “disgusting and not at all in keeping with our Army or nation’s values.”
“We are very interested in bringing the vandal or vandals to justice,” Gregory said.
Fort Stewart Directorate of Public Works personnel have removed the graffiti.
