Savannah-Chatham police are asking the public’s help identifying a male they say attempted to kidnap a 15-year-old girl Tuesday afternoon on Wilmington Island.
The teenager was on her way home from school about 4:20 p.m., walking near Steerforth Road and Hampsire Drive, when a male drove up in a white SUV and stopped. He exited the van, grabbed her arm and ordered her inside the vehicle, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
The teenager kicked the suspect and escaped, Miller said. The SUV left, turning right on Steerforth toward Walthour Road.
The suspect was described as a tanned white or Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet tall with black hair, a mustache and short beard. He was wearing blue gym shorts and a black short sleeve shirt. His vehicle was an older white SUV, possibly a Toyota Sequoya, police said.
