Police and family members are asking for the public’s help solving a more than 5-year-old Savannah homicide.
Brandon Tyree McCullough, 25, was shot and killed outside his apartment on Dec. 27, 2009. Officers responding to the 911 call about 7:50 p.m. that day found McCullough with a gunshot wound to his head at Hampstead Oak apartments in the 5100 block of Hampstead Avenue, said Savannah-Chatham police Sgt. Shinita Young. Neighbors and others in the area didn’t give detectives much information that could help them at the time.
Young said she hopes people with information may have moved from the area or that enough time has elapsed and they will feel comfortable sharing information that can help put the killer or killers behind bars.
“Any detail, even if it’s marginal, might help us move the move the case forward,” she said.
Any information about McCullough associates around the time of his death could help, she said.
Young was lead detective on the slaying, but she’s since been promoted to a patrol supervisor. But she still keeps in touch with the family members and works with homicide detectives on the case, she said.
Few friends of McCullough’s have even given family members information that could help, she said.
“The family needs peace,” Young said.
Police ask anyone with information that can help them solve McCullough’s slaying to call the anonymous CrimeStoppers service at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
Investigators can be reached confidentially at 912-525-3124, and most area clergy have agreed to serve as liaisons for anyone who would like to share information with police anonymously.
