



The FBI and two local police departments are searching for the people they say tried to rob banks in Savannah and Garden City on Wednesday.
At 1:55 p.m. the FBI and Savannah-Chatham police responded to an attempted bank robbery at the Wells Fargo branch on the 3500 block of West Bay Street. Investigators learned that a male suspect entered the bank claiming to have a gun and demanding cash, but abruptly fled the scene on foot, said Eunicia Baker, police spokeswoman.
The suspect is described as a black male, standing 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build. He has a bald head and a salt-and-pepper goatee. He wore a gray T-shirt with an “MPS” logo, black cargo shorts and black sneakers during the incident.
At about 2:07 p.m. FBI agents and Garden City police responded to another attempted bank robbery on the 4400 block of Augusta Road at a Bank of America branch. A second male suspect told staff he was armed and demanded money. He fled the scene on foot.
The second suspect is described as a black male in his 40s wearing a black hat.
Police ask anyone with information on the attempted robberies to call the anonymous CrimeStoppers service at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters’ identities remain confidential and they may qualify for a cash reward.
A tip line is also open directly to investigators at 912-525-3124, and most area clergy have agreed to serve as liaisons for anyone who would like to share information with police anonymously.
