Police say they’re investigating a Friday afternoon armed robbery at an east Savannah bank.
The robbery at the Wells Fargo on Waters Avenue was reported about 12:45 p.m., said Michelle Gavin, Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman. Metro police and the FBI were called to the scene.
A metro police officer who was responding to the robbery got into a wreck nearby, at Waters Avenue and East 69th Street. Department spokeswoman Eunicia Baker said two people were taken to a hospital for treatment, but that injuries were not expected to be life threatening.
A preliminary investigation indicated the patrol car, while in route to the bank, was hit by another car, Baker said. The patrol car then collided with a parked SUV, which caused the SUV to hit the closest parked car. The car that collided with the patrol car on the roadway also hit another vehicle, Baker said.
No further information about either the robbery or the crash was immediately available.
