Police are looking for the man who apparently shot a woman then robbed her after she pepper-sprayed him during a fight early Saturday morning in a southside Savannah hotel.

About 4:28 a.m., a 22-year-old Florida woman heard someone knocking on the door of her room at the Econolodge off Abercorn Street, said Eunica Baker, Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman. When the woman opened the door, a man reportedly forced his way inside.

They fought, and the woman was shot after she used pepper spray on the intruder, Baker said.

He ran away after grabbing her cellphone.

Detectives are working to figure out if the woman and the shooter were previously acquainted on a website.

Police say the shooting suspect is a 23 to 24-year-old light complexioned black man who’s about 5 feet 6 inches tall and has low-shaven hair and a mustache.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and could be rewarded with cash. Detectives can be reached in confidence at 912-525-3124.
