Police in Savannah say that when they busted a 17-year-old burglary suspect on Thursday morning they found a stolen gun, ammo, computers and some pot, among other items.

Thairique Jones was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, one count of theft of receiving stolen property, one count of possession of drug-related objects and marijuana possession, said Darnisha Green, Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman.

A tip led police to a residence in the 1100 block of East Duffy Street about 11 a.m. Thursday. Officers were given consent to search the place, where Green said they recovered several items of stolen property, including laptops, a rifle, more than 500 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, cellphones, assault weapon magazines, debit cards, “military equipment,” scales an air pistol, digital camera and a small amount of marijuana.

Jones, who was arrested without incident, was suspected in two recent burglaries, Green said.

Just before 1 a.m. Dec. 29, cash, electronics and firearms were reportedly stolen in the 1200 block of East Duffy. And just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, electronics and cash were reported stolen in the 1100 block of East Duffy. Several of the stolen items have been returned to their owners, Green said.

The case is still under investigation.
