A vehicle collision on Tuesday morning killed one Port Wentworth man instantly and hospitalized another with serious injuries, Savannah-Chatham police reported.
Edwin Barrondo Hernandez, 51, was declared dead at the scene. Another occupant, Manuel Chivalan Calam, 42, was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center, police reported.
Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) officers are investigating the crash that occured at 5:50 a.m. at Jimmy DeLoach and Crossroads parkways, police said.
Police spokesman Julian Miller said the two men were in a green Saturn sedan driven by Calam that was traveling westbound on Jimmy DeLoach and then turned left onto Crossroads. The Saturn was struck on the passenger’s door by a gray GMC van traveling eastbound on Jimmy DeLoach by Michael Knight, 34, of Pooler, according to police.
Knight was not injured in the crash, said Miller.
