Holiday crime reduction effort monitors Savannah probationers, parolees

Seven people were arrested Monday as the result of a multi-agency effort headed by the Savannah Impact Program to combat crimes common during the holiday season.

Operation Safe Holiday included compliance checks and warrant services for preselected adult and juvenile sex offenders, probationers and parolees in Chatham County, said Eunicia Baker, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman. Officials from the Savannah-Chatham police led-Savannah Impact Program, the State Board of Pardons and Parole, Savannah Probation, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and Chatham County Juvenile Court worked to closely monitor known offenders.

In all, officials made contact with 51 offenders, conducted 14 searches, five drug screenings and 18 field interviews.

Baker said offenders found to be in compliance with their court orders were conseled on services offered by SIP.
