
Savannah State University public safety officials Friday released a photo of a man suspected in an armed robbery and the sexual assault of two students early this month on the university’s campus.
SSU Department of Public Safety investigators are asking the public to help them identify the man captured on surveillance footage at University Commons Dec. 5 apparently wearing all black, said Loretta Heyward, university spokeswoman.
The cameras show the man walking on a sidewalk in the school’s housing area.
Anyone with information about the man’s identity is asked to call Savannah State University Public Safety at 912-358-3004, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at 912-871-1121, or the CrimeStoppers line at 912-234-2020.
Human remains found near Ogeechee River
Savannah-Chatham police are investigating Friday after a fisherman found human remains near a west Chatham County park.
The fisherman reported finding the remains about 11 a.m. near Kings Ferry Park off U.S. 17 on the Ogeechee River, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
No additional information was immediately available.
Miller asked anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.

Holiday operation aims to cut crime
Seven people were arrested Monday as the result of a multi-agency effort headed by the Savannah Impact Program to combat crimes common during the holiday season.
Operation Safe Holiday included compliance checks and warrant services for preselected adult and juvenile sex offenders, probationers and parolees in Chatham County, said Eunicia Baker, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
Officials from the Savannah-Chatham police led-Savannah Impact Program, the State Board of Pardons and Parole, Savannah Probation, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and Chatham County Juvenile Court worked to closely monitor known offenders. In all, officials made contact with 51 offenders, conducted 14 searches, five drug screenings and 18 field interviews.
Baker said offenders found to be in compliance with their court orders were conseled on services offered by SIP.
