A Monday afternoon house fire on Savannah’s eastside displaced a family of four, said Mark Keller, Savannah Fire & Emergency Services spokesman.

Savannah Fire & Emergency Services firefighters were dispatched to 2129 Oakland Court just after 1:35 p.m. on reports of a fire on an outside porch. When firefighters arrived on scene, flames had already engulfed a carport and extended inside the house. Firefighters were able to quickly attack the flames and limit fire damage to the carport and less than half the interior of the home. The remainder of the one-story house sustained widespread smoke, heat and water damage. In addition to the damage to the structure, at least one vehicle, a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck that was parked in the carport, sustained extensive damage from the fire.

One adult was home at the time of the fire. She was able to leave the house and call 911. Two adults and two children are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Savannah Fire investigators have conducted a preliminary examination of the scene and determined that the blaze erupted on the carport, however their investigation into its cause is still ongoing.
