An Ellabell man wanted for aggravated assault and theft by taking by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office was arrested in Albany, N.Y., by the U.S. Marshals Service Albany Division of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force on Thursday.

Henry Gaines, 27, was wanted locally on the above charges from two incidents that happened in January in Ellabell, said Tommy Long, local U.S. marshals spokesman. Gaines went on the run at that time and his whereabouts were unknown.

The case was referred to the Savannah office of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force to locate and apprehend Gaines.

An extensive investigation was conducted by the Savannah Marshals Task Force, and information was generated that Gaines was possibly in the Albany, N.Y., area, Long said.

Gaines has numerous relatives in Albany.

This information was passed the marshals in New York.

Of the several addresses provided by the Savannah Task Force, the New York/New Jersey task force developed the address of 630 South Pearl St. Apartment C as an address for Gaines’ cousin, Long said. New York /New Jersey task force members went to the address and found Gaines hiding under a bed, Long said.

Gaines was arrested without incident and taken to a local jail in Albany to await extradition back to Bryan County.
