Bryan fugitive arrested in New York
An Ellabell man wanted for aggravated assault and theft by taking by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Thursday in Albany, N.Y., by the United States Marshals Service.
Henry Gaines, 27, was wanted by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office from two incidents that happened in January in Ellabell, said Tommy Long, local U.S. marshals spokesman. After the incidents took place, Gaines went on the run and his whereabouts was unknown, Long said.
An investigation conducted by the Savannah Marshals Task Force and information was generated that Gaines was possibly in the Albany, N.Y, area, where he has numerous relatives. Marshals found him hiding under a bed at the address of a cousin and arrested without incident and taken to a jail in Albany to await extradition to Bryan County.
Men indicted on counterfeit money charges
A federal grand jury has indicted Henry Grady Wall, 35, and James Wesley Kelly, 55, both of Savannah, on charges of conspiring to deal in counterfeit $50 bills.
The indictment alleges Wall and Kelly knowingly used counterfeit notes to buy money orders at a grocery store in Port Wentworth.
Wall and Kelly were arraigned Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge G.R. Smith on charges of conspiracy and dealing with counterfeit currency.
The conspiracy charge carries a maximum prison sentence of five years; dealing in counterfeit securities carries a 20-year maximum prison sentence. Both Wall and Kelly were denied bond and ordered detained pending trial.
Wall was charged separately with passing counterfeit currency, which also carries a 20-year maximum prison sentence.
