Narcotics agents say they arrested a Savannah man Tuesday after seizing about $150,000 worth of heroin.
Calvin Phillips, 50, was arrested after the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team, assisted by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, conducted a search warrant in the 600 block of West 36th Street, said Gene Harley, CNT spokesman.
During the search, police seized a large amount of heroin and items commonly used in the distribution of controlled substances, Harley said, adding that the heroin had an estimated street value of $150,000.
CNT agents learned about the heroin while working undercover and put a plan together to seize it, Harley said.
In a news release, CNT Director Everette Ragan said the heroin was seized before it had “the chance to poison our community.”
Phillips was charged with trafficking heroin and is being held at the Chatham County jail. Phillips is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Recorders Court.
