The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has again received reports of phone scams being conducted locally.
The fraudulent caller identifies himself as Lt. James Hall and states a fine must be paid because of a missed jury summons and subsequent contempt of court fines, said Wayne Wermuth, sheriff’s office spokesman.
The caller will demand payments made on a Green Dot or credit card, Wermuth said.
Chatham County Courthouse employees could possibly call about a jury summons but would never demand payment or ask for personal financial information, Wermuth said.
Any resident experiencing this fraud attempt is asked to hang up and immediately contact the sheriff’s criminal investigation division at 912-661-1692.
