Detectives are trying to identify a woman they say stole a wallet someone left on a counter at the Garden City police department Tuesday morning.
The incident was captured on video, said Garden City police Capt. Gil Ballard.
Ballard said a woman was at the police department to pay a citation when she went back to her car to retrieve some information. She took her handbag with her, but left her wallet on a lower ledge that is not visible by court clerks.
At that point, a second woman came in and had a short conversation with the clerk about having someone else’s court date moved, Ballard said. The woman did not provide her name. Ballard said she grabbed the wallet and left before the victim returned.
