Police say a prominent Colombian businessman and member of a political family in the South American country has been found dead in a downtown Savannah hotel room.

The death of Andres Felipe Blackburn Cardona, 43, of Bogota is under investigation by violent crimes detectives, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman. Cleaning staff of a Broughton Street hotel found Blackburn Cordona just before 2 p.m. Thursday. Police did not name the hotel.

On Friday night, police said they did not suspect foul play. An autopsy has been completed, and police said Blackburn Cardona’s family has been notified, along with the Colombian government.

Blackburn Cardona was the son of one of the founders of new liberalism in Colombia, according to news reports in that country.

His disappearance has been in national news in Colombia since he disappeared from the capital of Bogota on Monday. Blackburn Cardona’s family had reported him missing to authorities, El Tiempo reported.

Reports said he flew to Miami then traveled to Washington before being found dead in Savannah.

Metro police have not released a cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.

The FM reports Blackburn Cardona’s wife will travel to the United States to claim his body.
